Our affordable housing communities help low-income individuals and families live, work, and play in an increasingly expensive Bay Area. Our vision is to create vibrant communities that meet diverse needs and build broader economic and social opportunities.
RCD’s housing offers our residents a foundation for a better future through:
- Green building features that are healthy and cost-efficient
- Affordable rent and professional property management
- Access to on-site resident services and community resources
- A safe home near transportation, jobs, retail, and services.
Our integrated model of development intentionally combines housing for people with various needs and social services. This helps maintain diverse communities and prevent displacement. In addition, we provide commercial space that benefits the community. Street level spaces support local entrepreneurs and community-based organizations who provide important services and are at risk of displacement as well.
RCD has successfully addressed issues of affordability by focusing on the people whose income is between 20 and 60 percent of the area median. More and more working families now fit this income restriction. To serve our most vulnerable, we have set aside nearly one third of our housing units for people who have been homeless, people who have major medical or mental health needs, veterans, and elderly people with frail health. We make sure they have full supportive services to live independently.
In close partnership with city, county, and state agencies, financial institutions, landowners, other non-profit organizations, and community members, RCD builds homes for people who need below market rate homes right now, with a commitment to maintaining these homes as community assets well into the future.
